Blinken to discuss truce in Gaza in Saudi Arabia
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will hold talks in Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday with regional partners about, among other things, a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages by Hamas. His department announced this on Saturday.
According to spokesperson Matthew Miller, the recent increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza will also be discussed and will be urged to maintain this for a longer period of time.
“The minister will certainly also emphasize the importance of preventive measures against the expansion of the conflict and of efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the region. The path to an independent Palestinian state and security guarantees for Israel are part of this,” Miller said.
A visit to Israel is not on Blinken’s agenda. The American Secretary of State will attend a special meeting of the World Economic Forum on global cooperation, climate change and the energy transition.
