On April 30, 2013, Willem-Alexander succeeded his mother and from that moment on he is our king. The following year we celebrate King’s Day for the first time. We look back on the inauguration in 2013 and see what festive clothing the royal family will wear in the years that follow.

After 33 years of reign, Queen Beatrix will step down from her royal duties on April 30, 2013. Willem-Alexander succeeds her and the Netherlands has a king again after more than 100 years.

King’s Day 2014 in Amstelveen and De Rijp
On April 26, 2014 we celebrate King’s Day for the first time with Willem-Alexander as king. Because the king’s birthday falls on a Sunday in 2014, the celebration has been brought forward one day. The royal family will visit the North Holland towns of Amstelveen and De Rijp. To their right, Mayor Fred de Graaf.
King’s Day 2015 in Dordrecht
From 2015, the royal family will no longer go to 2 places, but to 1. This will be a municipality with a central function. Dordrecht will be visited in 2015.
King’s Day 2016 in Zwolle
In 2016, the royal family will go to the capital of the province of Overijssel: Zwolle.
King’s Day 2017 in Tilburg
In 2017, the king will celebrate his 50th birthday during King’s Day. The royal family visits Tilburg.
King’s Day 2018 in Groningen
In 2018, the royal family will move to the north of the country. The festive day will be celebrated in Groningen this year.
King’s Day 2019 in Amersfoort
The royal family will take a walking tour through the city center of Amersfoort in 2019.
King’s Day 2020 at home at Huis ten Bosch Palace
King’s Day 2020 will be different than usual. Due to the coronavirus, it is not possible to celebrate en masse. The royal family therefore celebrates the day from home, at Huis ten Bosch Palace. (See also the photo above this article). They participate in all kinds of online activities during the day.
King’s Day 2021 in Eindhoven
King’s Day 2021 still has to take place partly remotely due to the corona pandemic, but the royal family is already returning to the country. A visit is made to Eindhoven.
King’s Day 2022 in Maastricht
In 2022, King’s Day will be completely as usual again. The king celebrates his 55th birthday and his 9th King’s Day with his family in Maastricht.
King’s Day 2023 in Rotterdam
The 10th King’s Day and the king’s 56th birthday are celebrated in Rotterdam. Due to exams for Princess Alexia’s studies in Great Britain, she will be absent from the festivities this time.
King’s Day 2024 in Emmen
King Willem-Alexander celebrates his 57th birthday together with Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane in Emmen.
