On Sunday, May 5, there will be no fewer than two liberation concerts in Capelle aan den IJssel. Orchestra Musical Souvenir will perform in the St. Paulus’ Conversion Church and in the Van Cappellenhuis people can listen to the Maas Marimba Trio.

On Sunday evening, May 5, the Capelse orchestra Musical Souvenir, led by conductor Bram Soentjens, will give their traditional liberation concert in the St. Paulus’ Conversion Church (Merellaan 352). The evening will be opened by Mayor Cor Lamers.

Musical Souvenir plays music from different experiences of the concept of freedom with England as the theme. It promises to be a wonderful concert with film music from James Bond, Harry Potter, Dartmoor and Robin Hood, among others. The music of the typical English musical Oliver by Charles Dickens should of course not be missed, as well as the impressive Nimrod. The classic We’ll Meet Again will be played at the end. This year too, poems will be recited in the theme of liberation and freedom.

Admission to the Musical Souvenir liberation concert is free. Visitors are welcome from 6:30 PM. The concert will start at 7:00 PM.

Maas Marimba Trio

A liberation concert will also be organized in the Van Cappellenhuis on Sunday afternoon. Georgi Tsenov (vibraphone and marimba), Peter Bamsberg (marimba, vibraphone) and Wim van Herk (piano) together form the Maas Marimba Trio.

The program covers a broad repertoire from various styles such as Classical, South American, Jazz, with composers such as Bach, Milhaud, Chick Corea, Piazzolla. Solo, duo and trio are the ingredients with which the program is presented in a relaxed atmosphere.

The liberation concert in the Van Cappellenhuis starts at 3 p.m. and lasts until approximately 4:30 p.m. Tickets are €18 and available via vancappellenhuis.nl. There is a reduced rate for young people (€9; up to and including 25 years) and Friends of the Van Cappellenstichting (€15).
