Eva Hermans-Kroot, known for her participation in Over Mijn Lijk, stops taking treatment for lung cancer. She writes about this decision on her Instagram.
“This is the most difficult choice I am currently facing,” she says.
Tired
Eva writes that she has been feeling really bad all week. She suffers a lot from fatigue and side effects of the treatment. “That’s why I told Matthijs and Mama for the first time yesterday that I was done with it,” said Eva. “But mentally I still want to. This treatment is just too much for me and I’m giving up more and more and I’m mostly done with that. How else am I going to get chemo and radiation in this state?”
She then discussed with Matthijs and her mother whether to call the doctor. “Because continuing like this is really not an option for me.” After an email he called her.
Stop the treatment
“He understood me very well and is disappointed that it affects me so much,” says Eva. “Because I couldn’t make the choice to stop the treatment, he made this for me. So I won’t have a treatment next Friday anyway. Instead, they will do extensive blood tests to see if there are other causes that are giving me this extreme fatigue.”
Eva writes that the doctor will call her again on May 10 about the next steps. “Are you going for treatment again? Have I recovered somewhat or should I just start chemo? Or now just look at quality of life.”
Pride
“It feels like giving up and failing to me, but my doctor told me to put that out of my mind,” she writes. “A lot of other people wouldn’t have been able to get so many different treatments. I am very proud of myself but this is also the hardest choice I have ever made. I am very happy that I can go to the doctor and that he will help me with this choice.”
