It’s bound to happen to you: you’re mistaken for a baby every time you fly, even though you’re already the respectable age of 101. It happens to Patricia time and time again when she travels with American Airlines.

Due to an error in the American Airlines system, the woman is given 2022 as year of birth every time instead of 1922, writes BBC News. The last time things went wrong was on a flight between Chicago and Marquette, Michigan.

Patricia flew with her daughter Kris. “My daughter reserved the ticket online. The computer at the airport thought my date of birth was 2022 and not 1922,” she told the British broadcaster. According to Patricia, the same thing happened a year earlier. Even then, people expected a child instead of an elderly woman, despite the fact that her seat was booked with an adult ticket.

Issues

Although the 101-year-old can laugh about it, she hopes the glitch will be fixed as it has caused some problems in the past. In one incident, there was no transportation available for her in the terminal because airline staff were expecting a baby to be carried. The woman had to wait on the plane while a wheelchair was arranged for her.

The bold woman says that American Airlines staff responded in a friendly and helpful manner time and time again, despite the confusion. According to the woman, it appears that the system cannot process a date of birth that is more than 100 years ago. The airline has not yet responded to the problem.

The site does not report where exactly the woman comes from. Patricia traveled alone until she was 97, but since then she has depended on help from her family. “I have some problems with my vision, so I don’t want to do it alone anymore,” she told the site. She doesn’t let IT problems stop her from flying.
