On Saturday, May 4, we commemorate the victims of war and during peace missions throughout the Netherlands. In Capelle aan den IJssel there are memorial gatherings in the Nieuwe Westerkerk and at the old cemetery in Capelle-West.
The first meeting starts in the Nieuwe Westerkerk at seven in the evening. Mayor Cor Lamers will give a speech. There is also musical accompaniment and students from Capel recite poems. Finally, the Wilhelmus is sung.
After the meeting, a silent procession will take place at half past seven from the church to the old cemetery. Here too, students will recite a number of poems and the Wilhelmus will be sung. Two minutes of silence will be held at eight o’clock.
