If you’re just joining us, or need a recap, police have given an update after a serious incident took place in Hainault, north-east London, this morning involving a man with a sword.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • With Police have said a 14-year-old boy has died from his wounds in hospital – he was one of five people injured

  • The other four – two members of the public and two police officers – remain in hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening, the Met’s Ch Supt Stuart Bell told reporters earlier

  • He confirmed that a 36-year-old man had been arrested and is in custody – the suspect was Tasered 22 minutes after the first call was made to police

  • The circumstances surrounding the attack are being investigated but it’s not believed to have been linked to “any acts of terrorism”. Bell said there was no “ongoing threat” to the public and police were not seeking any other suspects

  • Police were called shortly before 07:00 BST to reports of a vehicle being driven into a house on Thurlow Gardens, near Hainault Tube stationbefore subsequent reports of stabbings

  • Video has been circulating on social media showing a man brandishing a sword and approaching people’s homes – other footage showed police pursing a man as he broke into people’s gardens

  • Witnesses describe seeing a man holding a “huge sword” and hearing screams
