Man charged with murder after sword attack in London

LONDON (AFP) – A man has been charged with murder after a sword attack in London that left a 14-year-old boy dead. The 36-year-old suspect appeared in court for the first time on Thursday. It determined that the man will remain in custody for the time being.

Four others, including two police officers, were injured in the violence. The Spanish-Brazilian suspect is also charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, burglary and possession of a stabbing weapon.

The stabbing took place on Tuesday morning in the northeast of the British capital, in the suburb of Hainault. The suspect first allegedly drove a van into a fence of a house. There he allegedly stabbed his first victim and then the second victim in a nearby home. The 14-year-old boy, who was walking to school, was then attacked. Two officers who arrived on the scene after reports of violence suffered serious injuries.

The police stated that there was no terrorism. It is not clear what the motive was. The police have not said anything about that yet.
