RKC took three very, very important points against Heracles Almelo on Sunday afternoon, and how. Finally the Waalwijkers did hold onto a lead and the goal machine was running at full speed: 0-5. Never before have RKC scored so many goals in an away game.
Who else than David Min, the man in form at RKC, gave the visitors the lead after seven minutes. Chris Lokesa made a great pass, giving the striker a free passage towards Heracles goalkeeper Michael Brouwer. Min remained calm and finished calmly: 0-1.
RKC had little trouble with poor Heracles in the first half, although Henk Fraser’s team did see the opponent appear more in front of goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen’s goal halfway through the first half. It was therefore extra nice that Juriën Gaari put RKC at 0-2 just before half time. He headed home from a corner from Aaron Meijers.
To cling
But the main question was whether RKC could hold on to that lead. Because that did not work in the past two games (2-0 against AZ and 2-1 against FC Utrecht). Just after halftime, it was logically Heracles that went for the tying goal. But after fifteen minutes, RKC had it completely under control again.
More than twenty minutes before the end, match winner Min decided the game by placing the ball from a cross from Reuven Niemeijer into the far corner: 0-3. His ninth goal this season, making him now the club’s top scorer. But he would also make his tenth. The celebration only increased when Shawn Adewoye made it 0-4 and Min again made it 0-5. An incredible result, but it really stands out.
Crucial win
The away crowd was ecstatic, because these three points are so important in the fight against relegation. If Excelsior does not beat NEC on Monday evening, RKC will enter the penultimate round as number 15.
