Middelharnis – Last Saturday, April 27, King’s Day, the 3e pigeon flight of the 2024 season on the program. This was also the first Grand Prix flight of PV de Combinatie from Middelharnis this season. Read a report below >>

Follow-up

41 pigeon coaches came to the Melkhuusje in Middelharnis on Friday evening to basket their pigeons and compete for the victory of the flight from Niergnies Seravall, a town in Northern France, with a distance of approximately 190 km. A total of 1,057 pigeons were basketed by the pigeon coaches of PV de Combinatie, which, together with 34,000 other pigeons from South Holland, were transported to the unloading location by truck.

Early Saturday morning it was cloudy and rainy and we had to wait until 9.30 am before the signal for unloading could be given. From that moment on, calculations are made, what is the wind like, how fast will they fly today, what time can we expect them.

At 11.19.34 the first message comes from Ouddorp, Jim and Mick Hameeteman have discovered their yearling cock, NL23-9289937. The National Vitesse (speed) champions from 2023 immediately strike for the first Grand Prix Flight and win the 1e price, also the 1e of Samenspel Zuid Hollandse Eilanden and the 1e prize of the entire department 5 South Holland against more than 35,000 pigeons.

Another great performance from this father-son combination.

With a speed of over 105 km per hour, this yearling cock is the winner of the Grand Prize Elsto Schilderwerken.

Jim and Mick were waiting for their pigeons in the garden when they suddenly saw 2 pigeons coming from behind the loft. It turned out to be the winning pigeon with another stranger. The ‘937 was not in a hurry to go in and continued to fly with the strange pigeon for another minute and a half.

Despite this, the big winner of this flight.

The winning pigeon does not have it from strangers, because both the father and mother have flown well and are of good descent. This is how the father of the ‘937 managed a 1e to win a prize from Lennik against 13486 pigeons and a 2e prize on Fontenay against 5502 pigeons. The mother of the ‘937 comes from the best pigeon that Jim and Mick have ever had, namely “super Keesie”. This one itself won a 1e Peronne against 38031 pigeons and a 1e from Pont St. Maxence against 13509 pigeons. So it really is in the genes!

A half-brother of the winning pigeon also won a 1st last yeare prize from Niergnies against 20033 pigeons.

In preparation, the pigeons have been taken away a number of times and now for the 3e week with the flights. To reduce the form in the beginning, the pigeons were darkened until April 20th.

Even though this father-son combination has flown great in recent years, they were still a bit hesitant at the start of the season. This is because they had a new coop built and installed last winter. You never know how the pigeons will settle down there. But they can continue with peace of mind, because the new loft has no impact on previous performances. The quality of the pigeons is there, both pigeon coaches have it under control and the new loft is no problem, so we will hear a lot from this father-son combination again this season. Not only at PV de Combinatie, but also throughout the Netherlands.

Once again the first Grand Prize Elsto Schilderwerken won by 2 great pigeon coaches. André van der Linde and Richard van den Bos complete the stage.

May 18, 2024 is the next Grand Prix flight. We wish everyone good luck with their preparation for this flight.
