Prices and weather can throw a spanner in the works, but camping can provide a solution

The search for the ideal holiday destination is causing more and more Dutch people to experience choice stress. Recent research by the NBTC shows that 72% of Dutch holidaymakers will be confronted with rising prices this year. For example, airline tickets, gasoline and overnight stays have become considerably more expensive, forcing many people to significantly revise their holiday budgets.

Half of those surveyed even opt for a cheaper holiday or postpone their trip altogether. In addition to the financial pressure, the weather also plays an increasingly important role in making holiday plans. The fear of heat waves, forest fires and floods is real for many people. This results in a shift in holiday patterns: 42% of respondents to an NBTC survey choose a holiday in their own country or a neighboring country to reduce the risk of extreme weather.

Is camping the ideal solution?

These developments offer opportunities for the camping industry. After all, camping is a relatively cheap and safe way to go on holiday. You are not dependent on expensive airline tickets or overnight stays in overcrowded hotels. Moreover, you have the flexibility to choose a campsite in an area with a temperate climate, where the chance of extreme weather is smaller.

Naturally, the camping industry is responding to the growing demand. Many campsites are investing in new facilities, such as increasingly luxurious sanitary facilities, nicer playgrounds and swimming pools. More and more camper pitches are also being constructed, with which they want to entice more and more campers to visit. Sales of caravans and especially campers are also steadily increasing. A clear indication that more and more people are discovering the benefits of camping, even after the corona pandemic.

Tips for an unforgettable and safe camping holiday

  • Book on time
Especially in the high season, it is advisable to reserve your camping pitch or camper pitch in advance.
  • Choose a campsite that suits your needs
There are campsites for young and old, with or without a swimming pool, in nature or close to a city.
  • Try to avoid the busiest days
Avoid unnecessary traffic jams and do not drive on the busiest days.
  • Ensure proper maintenance
Have your recreational equipment (camper, caravan, trailer tent) checked and maintained before departure. Safety comes first.
  • Take the right stuff with you
Make a checklist of all the items you need in addition to your recreational equipment, such as an awning, sleeping bags, camping chairs and a cool box.
  • Enjoy the outdoors
Camping is the ideal way to relax and enjoy nature. Go walking, cycling, swimming or canoeing.
  • Make new friends
At the campsite you can easily come into contact with other campers. Let it happen, even if it’s not exactly ‘your thing’. Camping is just a really fun way to meet new people.

Camping is a great way to vacation, regardless of the prices or the weather. With a little planning and the right preparation, you can have an unforgettable time.
