After three years, it appears that Jarod D., who has been in jail for the same amount of time after the murder of Leander Quintyn (32), is indeed accountable. The court experts extensively examined the man in his twenties and concluded that the young man does not suffer from a mental disorder. The psychiatric report took a while to arrive, but there is still no more clarity. This leaves us guessing as to a motive.

Leander Quintyn (32) was stabbed in the center of Tielt on Saturday, March 6, 2021 around 10:50 PM. The victim was on his way home when Jarod D. suddenly attacked him with several stab wounds. The man in his thirties was taken to hospital, but ultimately died from his injuries. The murder has long been known as one with many question marks. For example, investigators only spotted Jarod D. a month after the facts. The latter talked his mouth off to an acquaintance, after which the alarm was raised.

The young man was arrested and has been in prison for more than three years. The young man has since made confessions, but the question marks do not stop there: because why Jarod D. stabbed the victim remains a great mystery. The murder is therefore also called ‘murder without motive’. The psychiatric report took ages to arrive, much to the annoyance of the defense. In the meantime, the psychiatric report has been finalized. “According to that report, my client is indeed accountable,” says lawyer Randall Huysentruyt. So there is no mental disorder.

Bruges council chamber

Jarod D. appealed in March against the last decision of the council chamber to detain the twenty-something for two months longer. However, the twenties remained in prison. On Tuesday morning, the young man appeared again before the Bruges council chamber, after which his detention was extended again. The file is as good as ready, but only the final report is still pending. It will then be determined whether or not the case will be referred to the court of assizes.
