WOUDRICHEM The ‘Blieken’ Bram Bosch and Sven Wijkniet took part in the Woerkum fish fry championship on Thursday with four other ‘Blieken’. A total of 32 fish bakers had registered and participated in the competition in twenty teams. The six Bliek fish bakers won the prize for the best salmon bakers.

The quaint town, steeped in rich traditions, welcomed enthusiastic participants and spectators from all over the world for a day full of flavor and joy. The streets of Woudrichem came alive with the sizzling sound of frying oil and the delicious smell of freshly fried fish, as participants showed their skills and creativity in the art of fish frying. From traditional recipes to bold innovations, the event brought together a vibrant variety of flavors and traditions.

This year all eyes were on the proud champions from Gorinchem, who with their skill and dedication won the title of world salmon frying champion. The so-called ‘Blieken’ from Gorinchem not only managed to impress the jury with their perfectly fried fish, but also with their unique approach to taste and presentation. In the lion’s den they conquered the title of best salmon bakers. Aart Vink and Chris van der Beek won the prize for the best Poonbaker and best combination on a fire devil.

The Woerkum Fish Frying Championship in Woudrichem remains a highlight of the culinary calendar, a celebration of craftsmanship and community spirit that honors the rich traditions of the region.
