Vegetable and legume manufacturer HAK will stop production for a few weeks in January due to high energy prices. It concerns a break of six weeks, HAK reports on Monday. The security of supply of HAK products is not jeopardized by the measure for now. However, the company warns against higher prices.

HAK chooses to stop production in January, because it is the most expensive month of the year for the company. According to the manufacturer, it is not possible to produce throughout the winter with current energy prices.

Although no jars of applesauce or peas will be made for six weeks, that won’t lead to empty shelves.

Like many other sectors, the vegetable and legume producer is suffering from high energy prices. “The current energy costs are really exorbitant and for the time being ten times higher than last year,” says HAK CEO Timo Hoogeboom.

Hoogeboom therefore expects that these high energy costs will filter through to higher prices in the supermarket. “We are doing everything we can to bear our costs ourselves where possible and to plan smartly, so that prices do not have to rise at that level. Despite these initiatives, it is not yet possible to prevent sharp price increases. That is painful, but unfortunately the reality,” says the CEO.
