The story about the couple who would have left their toddler at the check-in counter at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv would not be correct, according to the Israeli police.

According to previous reports, the couple wanted to fly to Charleroi on a Ryanair flight, but the two refused to buy a plane ticket for their son and left him behind. The Israeli news site Bhol now reports that according to the police, the incident did not take place at all.

A video of the so-called ‘incident’ was shared on Facebook yesterday. Including the Israeli news channel N12 reported that the two parents had caused an argument with the desk clerks because they did not want to buy a ticket for their child, who would be three years old. Although there was earlier talk of two Belgians, according to SudInfo about a Belgian and a British man.

Since the child was over two years old, the parents had to “pay for a separate seat at the standard adult rate.” Several local media reported that the two men simply left the child in his child seat at the check-in counter and rushed to the security check.

The media sources also claimed that Ryanair employees had alerted the police. “All employees were shocked, we have never experienced anything like this. We couldn’t believe what we saw,” said Ryanair’s desk manager. The couple would eventually be arrested by the police and questioned. Sudinfo writes that the two men ‘returned to our country on Wednesday evening’.

However, according to the Israeli police, the story is not true. “An investigation conducted showed that there was no such event and that the video was taken from an angle that does not show the parents – who were actually still with their baby,” said a police spokeswoman. How the story got into the world has not been disclosed.
