An almost century-old Scotch whiskey has achieved a world record price at an auction in London. The bottle of The Macallan 1926 Adami fetched more than 2.1 million pounds (2.5 million euros), according to the auction house Sotheby’s, which calls it the highest price ever for a bottle of spirits or wine at auction.

The estimated price of whiskey from the Macallan distillery in the Speyside region was between £750,000 and £1.2 million. The yield significantly exceeded the record set in the fall of 2019. A bottle of The Macallan 1926 Fine and Rare then sold for £1.5 million.
The record-breaking whiskeys come from a legendary stock. In 1986, a total of forty bottles were bottled from one barrel, after the drink had been aged for sixty years.
