Hip-hop formation Pete Philly & Perquisite will release a new album on Friday after sixteen years. Although the two artists never really lost sight of each other, it felt good to make music together again after all these years. “We wondered: what will happen if we go back into the studio together? What comes out then? Before we knew it we were already at seven songs and we thought: why stop when the flow feels so good? Let’s make a whole album.”

Ultimately, the two produced fifteen new tracks, twelve of which are on the new album Eon have ended up. Fans of the past will certainly recognize the style of vocalist Pete Philly (Pieter Monzón) and producer Perquisite (Pieter Perquin), they assure ANP. “Our sound has always been eclectic. These are mainly a few songs that have stuck with the general public,” says Perquin, referring to, among other things Mystery Repeats, which served for years in a hardware store advertisement. “Fans will not be surprised that at Eon we also touch genres that we have not touched before.”

The three singles that the pair have already released are Hot Sauce, Mayhem and MyStereo, also indicate the breadth of the album as far as the gentlemen are concerned. “These are all timbres that you also hear on our first albums, although we have gone a step further,” says Monzón. “I also talk about other things, because the big difference from then is that we are both fathers now.” The number Eon is, for example, an ode to Pete’s daughter. “It’s about our infinite bond. We didn’t have those kinds of topics before. We were in our early twenties then, early forties now. Very old!”, the vocalist laughs.

The age and the current home situation not only had an influence on the music, but also on the production process. “We used to keep going until we ran out of inspiration. That could easily be two o’clock in the morning. Now we had to stop in time because children had to be picked up,” says Perquin. “This album was made under extremely bourgeois circumstances!” Monzón adds, laughing. “But the big advantage of a more regular life is that we have more focus. Like: this is the time frame, let’s see what we can create today. And that actually worked quite well.”
