HVV’24 and Hontenisse took full advantage in the third division of Sunday football, against Wernhout (0-2) and VVR (3-1) respectively. A battered Steen lost hard against competitor Zundert: 3-0.

Hontenisse-VVR 3-1: “Before the match I told the team that we should not get involved in VVR’s physical game and I think we solved that very well,” Hontenisse coach Carlo van Grimberghe said after the match. In the first half it was Jules van Dijke and Rob de Pooter who gave the home team a 2-0 lead. Just before the half-time signal, VVR scored the tying goal: 2-1. In the second half Hontenisse continued to play good football. “We made it 3-1 through Kris van Meele, but failed to score the fourth and possibly fifth goal. Nevertheless, I am satisfied. We have grown, we play football under pressure and that is what I am most proud of,” Van Grimberghe concluded.

Wernhout-HVV’24 0-2: With the wind at their backs, HVV’24 used the long ball too often before half time, causing a lot of ball loss. “We played better football in the second half. We looked for each other more on the ground,” coach Yves Michelet concluded afterwards. HVV’24 took a 0-1 lead via a penalty, which was used by Niek Luime. Siebe de Kraker made it a comfortable 0-2. “We still had chances to score a third goal, but we are happy with the three points.”

Zundert-Steen 3-0: Steen played a difficult match in Zundert. The team was missing many players due to injuries. “There were two boys from the fifth team on the bench, I am really happy that they were willing to participate,” said coach Jesse de Waal. Steen had a difficult time in the first half. Zundert was brighter and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. After the break the game pattern was the same, the home team determined the final score at 3-0. “We were not able to really make things difficult for Zundert,” De Waal concluded afterwards.
