MovieThe Indian film ‘Gandu’ was banned for a long time because of its extremely explicit scenes, in which the actors “actually have sex with each other.” But despite all the controversy, Netflix has now decided to make the film available on their streaming service.

‘Gandu’, which can be translated as ‘bastard’, tells the story of a frustrated teenager who steals from his mother’s lover and then becomes addicted to drugs. In addition to the many explicit scenes, the filmmaker has confirmed that there is also a moment where the mother and her lover actually have sex and therefore they were not acting. During this scene, protagonist Anubrata Basu’s entire genitals are also shown.

The film was shot in 2010, but due to its controversial content it was only shown for the first time in 2012 during the Asian film festival. For a long time, the film was banned and not shown to the general public, until it was finally unofficially released in 2017.

But even though ‘Gandu’ has caused a lot of controversy over the years, Netflix has chosen to make it available on their streaming platform. However, reactions online have been mixed. Some consider it ‘porn’, while others appreciate the film. For example, Rotten Tomatoes says: “Imaginative, entertaining, shocking. This is more of a revolution than a movie.” The film also has an audience score of 68% there. “The film consists of several erotic scenes that are explicit in nature, but certainly not pornographic in any way,” it added.
