Ubisoft will release XDefiant on May 21 for the Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5 and for PC via Ubisoft Connect. During this ‘preseason’, five game modes are available and five factions are playable, based on existing Ubisoft franchises.

There are two types of gameplay modes, Ubisoft explains. Linear games consist of teams that attack or defend. In Arena modes, teams compete for shared objectives or the most points. There are at least 24 weapons and 44 as of the date stated attachments for those weapons available in XDefiant.

Ubisoft’s press release says nothing about the release of XDefiant for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; Previous messages stated that the game would also be released for those platforms. It is not clear whether last-gen versions of the shooter have been scrapped or will be released at a later date. The company did not respond to questions from Tweakers before the publication of this article.

The free-to-play multiplayer shooter was announced in 2021 and has since been postponed several times, partly due to criticism from the gaming community about the style and approach of the game. There was also criticism of the title prefix ‘Tom Clancy’s’, as the game would have nothing to do with the author. Therefore, Clancy’s name was later removed from the title.
