During excavations, the remains of Annie De Poortere, a woman who disappeared 30 years ago, were found. She lived in the adjacent house at the time. Now the disappearance has been cleared up after all these years, but new questions have arisen: how did she die, and who had anything to do with her death?

An autopsy was performed on the remains, but it did not reveal what happened to the woman. “The autopsy has now been finalized. No concrete cause of death can be deduced from this,” the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office reported on Friday.

Electronic supervision

The victim’s 78-year-old husband was arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation. He appeared before the council chamber on Friday. He decided to extend his electronic supervision. The man says he did not kill his wife, but he did bury her body.

“We are fully committed to a rapid investigation, about which we do not wish to provide any further information,” the public prosecutor’s office added.
