New book from Vennepse author Leo Weijers will be published in 2025 by WBooks – HCnieuws

The new book by the Vennep author and pop historian Leo Weijers will be published in 2025 by Uitgeverij WBooks from Zwolle. WBooks is the Netherlands’ largest publisher of books about art, history and culture. Distribution, marketing, sales, promotion and publicity of the book will take place nationally in due course. With the publication of the book, a long-cherished wish of Weijers will come true. The book will be about the offshore radio years of Radio Veronica (1959-1974) and will not start ‘in a smoky conference room at Krasnapolsky’, but with Peer Jansen from Copenhagen (the founder of Radio Mercur) and Max Lewin, one of the three pioneers who form the basis of the VRON (Free Radio Broadcasting Netherlands). In addition, the book will provide an annual overview of the most popular singles in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States and the ultimate Veronica Top 40 for the years 1965-1974. The book will include a number of photos from the archive of the Norderney Foundation, the foundation that manages and preserves the cultural heritage of the offshore station Radio Veronica. The book will be published in (the autumn of) 2025, the year in which the Top 40 ‘exists’ for 60 years and Radio Veronica ‘exists’ for 65 years. A grand release party for invited guests will take place around the release date. With the book, Weijers hopes to please many fans of the offshore stations and pop music from the period 1960-1974. Weijers will soon sign the author contract with WBooks. .
