So far, Babboe has only recalled the City, City E, Mini and Mini E models.

Babboe called on affected customers with these models a month ago to register with the company. Their cargo bikes will be picked up at home. It is not yet known when this will happen.

The spokesperson cannot say how many bicycle owners have now registered and how many bicycles need to be recalled. At the beginning of March, more than 8,500 affected customers had reported via the website bakfietsclaim.nl of law firm Birkway.

The cargo bike company is still busy preparing the recall, a spokesperson reported last week. “This is a major logistical operation.” On the website redactiejeframe.nl, people with a Babboe cargo bike can enter their frame number and check whether their bicycle is included in the recall.

Uncertainty

Affected customers with other models that have to be recalled by the NVWA still do not know what to do with their cargo bike. The NVWA advises that recalled cargo bikes should no longer be used. For the bicycles that Babboe must also recall from the NVWA, ‘information must be submitted to demonstrate whether these models are safe’, the spokesperson further reported last week.

After victims have more clarity, Babboe will start recalling all models that are part of the recall, according to the spokesperson. This applies to bicycles sold in the Netherlands, but also in other countries where Babboe is active. The cargo bikes were sold in many European countries, and also in, for example, the United States and Australia.
