Sales of new electric cars in the Netherlands increased by almost 20 percent in the first three months of this year. According to the automotive industry, this is mainly due to companies that are increasingly opting for electric models.
Large companies do not have to wait for government support to go green, explains chairman Bert de Kroon of BOVAG car dealers. “But when we look at the share of the private market, we see that the number of consumers buying a new electric car is lagging far behind.”
A total of 101,849 new cars were registered in the first quarter. That is 4 percent more than a year earlier. Of these, 30,068 are fully electric. More than a fifth of all cars sold went to private individuals, the rest consists of business cars and lease or rental cars.
