Not only new power connections are under pressure, some companies cannot be connected to the drinking water network. New homes may also not be able to immediately use drinking water. Drinking water company Vitens warns about this.

This concerns areas in Twente, around Utrecht, Amersfoort, The Hague and the north of Groningen, says outgoing CEO Jelle Hannema of Vitens in the NOS Radio 1 News. “In the worst case, houses are built and there is no water connection. It is a serious issue.”

Permits

It is difficult for the water company to obtain permits to extract groundwater for water supply. In short, it means that there is a water shortage. Due to the warming nature, more water evaporates. At the same time, the demand for water is increasing, especially in summer.

“The system is completely stuck,” says Hannema. “There is scarcity and that paralyzes the system.”

Connection has been a problem for companies for some time. In recent years, a drinking water connection has been rejected at 45 companies.
