Every week your mailbox or letterbox is full of brochures and offers. Far too much to see the forest for the trees. What are the top businesses? And what are the catches? De Foldervreter will find it out for you. This week I find both a bargain and a ‘non-bargain’ at Aldi, you can score a whopping 140 euro discount on the trendy Dyson Airwrap or get a 50 percent discount on mascara from Maybelline, is there a one plus one free with minced meat and the bakers at Aldi and Lidl do not agree on the eights.

Lovers of Jules Destrooper’s cookies should go to Aldi this week. You still pay 2.29 euros for both the 125 and 175 gram packages. For comparison: at Delhaize we find natural butter wafers (175 grams) for 3.49 euros. At Aldi you now pay 35 percent less. Please note, there is a good chance that you will also walk past the promo on Heinz Ketchup in Aldi: 3.49 euros for a value pack’of 1 kg. Although that is not the case value as it seems. The normal price for that bottle elsewhere is about 3.79 euros. That’s less than an eight percent discount. There are much better deals on Heinz’s classic ketchup throughout the year. If you don’t need ketchup urgently, it’s better to wait a while. Oh yeah, one more thing about Destrooper. If you want a line of ice cream between your cookies, you have to go to Albert Heijn. There’s one one plus one free on La Galette: the collaboration between Jules Destrooper and IJsboerke.

Multistyler and mascara

The hype of hair-loving Flanders – and the rest of the world – is in advertising at Hypermarket Carrefour. There you get a 140 euro discount on the Dyson Airwrap, which means you still pay 459 euros. You can buy the multistyler/hairdryer for 549 euros at Krefel or on the Dyson site itself. At Hypermarket Carrefour it is priced a bit higher at 599 euros before they apply the discount, but it remains a matter. To prove how hip the thing is: last week Aldi had a lookalike on sale for 49.99 euros and it was a real rush. The Brochure Eater saw from the front row how women rushed into the store and the rack was empty after two minutes. A man stood there with his mobile phone to his ear, calling home: “Sorry honey, too late, do we need anything else from Aldi?” The same thing happened six months ago when Aldi had that lookalike for the first time. You can read that here. But now at Carrefour Hypermarket it’s all about the real thing. And anyone who is there can also pass by the rack of mascara. There is one until May 6 one plus one on all mascara from the Maybelline brand.

Both Delhaize and Lidl have a promotion with minced pork and veal. The one in Delhaize is the most interesting. There it is one plus one free. You still pay 4.75 euros per kg. At Lidl you get a 30 percent discount and you still pay 6.24 euros per kg. Colruyt naturally follows Delhaize’s price. Please note that minced pork and veal is not the same everywhere. Some chains contain quite a bit more veal than others. We discovered this earlier and you can read it here.

One eight is not the same as the other

Everyone knows an eight-cake from the bakery. But the bakers at Lidl and Aldi clearly have a different opinion about its appearance. The cookies in question are being advertised in both chains this week. Judge for yourself, but if you ask me, the bakers at Lidl got it right and those at Aldi have given it a free interpretation.
