Childcare employers and trade unions have reached an agreement on a new collective labor agreement. An additional 2.5 percent salary will be added in six months.

If the majority of union members vote in favor of the agreement, it will come into effect on July 1. Employees therefore receive extra wages, and the so-called extra roster day, a working day on top of the agreed contract hours during which someone can be rostered, also expires.

Hated

According to trade unions FNV and CNV, this extra roster day is hated in the industry. “All that shifting is not good for professionals or for children,” says Debby Dorenbos of the FNV. “We are pleased that employers are in line with the unions on this.”

The collective labor agreement applies to more than 122,000 people active in childcare and ends at the end of December. The trade associations also say they are satisfied, in anticipation of a longer-term collective labor agreement that will come into effect after December.

Valuation

“With another salary increase in 2024 for our employees, we show our appreciation for their commitment and professionalism,” says negotiator on behalf of the Trade Association for Social Childcare Robert Sänger. “This makes working in childcare even more attractive.”

Last year, negotiators also reached a new collective labor agreement, which runs until July 1. It was agreed that wages would increase by an average of 7.9 percent in 2023 and by 4 percent in the first months of this year.
