Wedding

The family of Alie’s husband does not agree with his choice, to say the least. This becomes even more evident when the two get married, and Alie’s father-in-law does not keep his feelings towards her to himself, even on this special day.

“They were about to pick me up at my parents’ house. But before my husband got into the car, my father-in-law wanted to make it clear to him that ‘it wasn’t necessary’. “He could still go home now, instead of picking me up from my parents.” He did not say this once, but repeated it like a kind of mantra. My brother – the driver of the wedding car – stood there and looked at it.”

Münchhausen-by-proxy

When Alie becomes pregnant not much later, the couple is thrilled to announce this to the family. “But when I arrived as a surprise with a roll of rusk and a pack of pink and blue mice, I was given the pink ones back in my hands. It just had to be a boy. A real founder, according to my father-in-law.”

And the man also has some criticism about his upbringing. “Our daughter was almost two years old when he shouted that I had Munchhausen by proxy. Like it’s nothing.”

Their daughter needs orthotics, goes to a physiotherapist and needs to have her eyes measured. “According to my father-in-law and his wife, this was really not necessary. Children sometimes looked cross-eyed. A week later our daughter had glasses with +7.75 and +7.5 lenses. Suddenly she saw that there were leaves on the trees.

The comment that I have Munchausen-by-proxy has hurt me so much that since this statement I have decided not to put any more energy into the relationship with my parents-in-law.”

Divorced

Alie and her husband have now divorced, but she still has contact with her ex-father-in-law for their daughter. “After the divorce, I packed everything for my ex’s move. But when he had loaded everything, his father told my ex to ‘take another tour through the house to take what he still wanted’.”

“We parted on a good note and we give each other the world. But to give his father the feeling that he had ‘taken something with him’, we packed the things together that he would pick up later. When the work would be completed in his new home. Just to get rid of the whining.”

“It is that I would do anything for our daughter, but if it were up to me, I would never have had to see my father-in-law and his wife again.”

*Alie’s name has been fictitious, her real name is known to the editors.
