Never gets used to it

On Saturday and Sunday evening Jaap could be seen in the Belgian Lotto Arena. Spoke between the two shows RTL Boulevard with the singer. “It really wasn’t normal,” says Reesema, who performed in front of six thousand people. ‘Yes, six thousand people singing along to your songs. I don’t think you ever get used to that,” he says.

Performance in Lotto Arena

Jaap is very pleased with the Lotto Arena. ‘It is a very nice, cozy room. It is of course quite large, but you can almost look the people at the back in the eye. So it was really crazy.” Reesema had no fewer than three guest artists to complete the show: Stef Bos, Nielson and the Belgian Pommelien Thijs. All the kids who were present at the concert also came on stage for his song My little president. ‘That’s a song of mine that I wrote together with Muck, my son. Then all the children who were there – and there were really a lot of them – came (…), so the whole stage was full of kids. And my three sons and my nephews and nieces were also there, they were all there. Yes, that is of course great fun.’

Son’s birthday

The weekend was a real celebration for Jaap, because his middle son Youp also had his birthday on Sunday. He turned six years old. ‘Normally you might stay there and sleep in a hotel, but especially now you just want to be with your son, be with your child, you want to sing and give a present. But yeah, I’m pretty devastated right now.’
