Rachel Hazes has celebrated the official opening of Casa Hazes, her brasserie in Torremolinos. But Melanie Beense, from whom Rachel took over the business, was not there. Is she no longer welcome?

Melanie Beense was supposed to train the staff and help on the terrace, but was surprisingly not present at the official opening of Casa Hazes.

Melanie absent

,,It was a private party for all her friends,” says Evert Santegoeds in Shownieuws. “You really had to be invited to be there and all those friends, who are they these days? We know that André and Rox are not there. But the fact that the previous owner Melanie, the daughter of Peter Beense, is not there gave us food for thought. She would help start the business.”

‘Something happened’

Evert then shows a photo of Rachel and Melanie. “You see them posing proudly here when the transfer takes place, they are still standing in the doorway, but it is doubtful whether they can still go through one door,” he continues. “Melanie doesn’t want to say what it is and Peter Beense doesn’t want to say anything about it either. Certainly not Rachel herself. Something happened but I don’t know what.”

No longer welcome

Patty Brard previously announced that Melanie is no longer welcome at Casa Hazes. “Melanie was going to train the staff, but she is no longer there. And when we called Casa Hazes and asked if she still works there, the staff could not answer,” Patty said in Shownieuws at the time.

Peter Beense responds

In conversation with the weekly magazine Party, Peter did reveal something about the situation. “I have kept myself a bit aloof, because I don’t want to get involved,” says Peter. He does say that Melanie is indeed no longer around the business. “My son-in-law has agreed that he will still supervise and train the chefs. My daughter was also supposed to train the staff, but that turned out not to be necessary.”
