Michael Jackson’s management is not happy with the auction of a leather jacket. An auction house claims that the late singer wore the famous red and black garment in the music video for the song ‘Thriller’, but management says this is not true.

The piece is being auctioned by the American auction house Gotta Have Rock and Roll. A lawyer for Michael Jackson’s management sent the auction house an angry letter yesterday, reports said TMZ. It states that the jacket offered was not produced at any time during production Thriller was worn by Michael.

According to the lawyer, only two red and black jackets were worn in the video clip. One was auctioned more than ten years ago for almost 2 million dollars (more than 1.8 million euros). That is twenty times more than the minimum amount that the auction house is now asking for the jacket. It is not clear where the second jacket has gone.

What is certain, according to the lawyer, is that this is a replica. Michael’s management states that Gotta Have Rock and Roll misleads people. The auction could also have a negative impact on the Michael Jackson brand and the value of the singer’s other personal items.

After the lawyer’s letter, the auction house adjusted the description on the website. It now says that Michael never wore the jacket, while previously the exact opposite was claimed.

Another jacket of Michael’s was previously auctioned. That black and white garment, on the other hand, was real and fetched 250,000 pounds (more than 285,000 euros). A hat worn by Michael sold for 77,640 euros.
