Although the final season of ‘Married At First Sight’ is over, there are still plenty of developments surrounding the show. RTL informed RTL Boulevard on Wednesday that two experts are leaving the program. Patrick van Veen, one of these matchmakers, now explains in a response why he will no longer return to the love program.

“I don’t think there is a good basis to make another season together”

Patrick has been involved as an expert for a total of six seasons. The behavioral biologist was featured in the first three and the last three series. “We thank him for his expertise over the past few seasons Married at First Sight and wish him good luck with his next steps,” RTL said in a statement about his departure today.

The love expert explains that he made this choice ‘some time ago’. “So in that respect, for me at least, it didn’t come completely out of the blue. I don’t think there is a good basis for making another season together,” says Patrick. He explains: “Over the past year I have had the feeling that I had to continuously defend my expertise and my role. That just takes a lot of energy.”

In the ninth season of Married at First Sight the experts have only successfully matched one couple. According to Patrick, this has to do with all the ‘noise’ that took place behind the scenes. “We [experts en redactie, red.] haven’t worked together in the same way as the seasons before. I feel like it has added a lot of noise to the entire process throughout the year. At some point it will bother you.”

Although Patrick does not want to say much about the outcome of the matches, he explains that the situation behind the scenes has influenced ‘how you create a program, how you make the matches and especially how you guide the people’.

Despite all the fuss surrounding the ninth season, Patrick still firmly believes in the concept of the ‘fantastic’ program. According to him, there are still plenty of talented matchmakers who can contribute to this love experiment in the future.

Professional matchmaker Radboud Visser is also quitting the program after two seasons.
