In the shoes of a single father: Jandino Asporaat thinks it is ‘secretly quite nice’

Now that Shirley has returned from her event in Curaçao, Jandino looks back on the period with his children. “I made a lot of jokes in recent days and at the same time I wanted to shine a light on all the parents/caregivers who put themselves aside every day to let the person they care for shine,” Jandino writes. ‘I come from a single mother, so I’ve seen how hard it is. I’m glad Shirley took her space and that gave me even more time with the kids.’

Yet it wasn’t all tough for the comedian. ‘I secretly hope that she will do her own thing more often, she deserves that, and secretly I enjoyed being there every day.’ Jandino has also gained new insights. ‘Two weeks ago I would have sworn that I had a healthy balance between family and business and now I know: things can be even better.’

New jokes

Parenthood and your own business require quite a bit of juggling skills. “I’ve had to use the phrase, ‘Sorry guys, I need a diaper change,’ during important business meetings,” Jandino shares. Despite the hustle and bustle, he looks back on the past period with satisfaction. “They were good days and I have new jokes for the theater.”
