The municipality of Rotterdam is looking for a place in the city for a lasting tribute to the recently deceased rapper Def Rhymz. A municipal spokesperson confirmed this following reports from Rijnmond.

The municipality is considering a mural by Def Rhymz, as was recently painted on the wall of a sports hall in the Rotterdam Crooswijk district by artist Che. That mural, in one of the few places in Rotterdam where young creatives are legally allowed to paint their murals, was painted over earlier this week.

“This image of Def Rhymz was a private initiative,” the spokesperson said. “It is also not our wall, so we cannot determine what happens to images on this wall. But it did give us the idea to perhaps initiate a permanent tribute to Def Rhymz in this form.”

The spokesman cannot say how long the municipality will take action on this.

Dennis Bouman, as Def Rhymz was really called, died at the end of March at the age of 53 due to heart problems. He had been living with a so-called supportive heart for four years while awaiting a transplant. Rhymz scored big hits with the songs Doekoe and Shake.

The rapper was born in Suriname, but grew up in Rotterdam. At the beginning of this month, Bouman was buried in Suriname.
