The four fireworks shows in Tilburg that would take place next New Year’s Eve and night are cancelled. The events in the Piushaven and Reeshofpark have been canceled due to the strong wind, the municipality of Tilburg reported on Saturday afternoon.
The wind has been blowing all day, making it dangerous to set off fireworks. Fireworks shows have now been canceled at various locations in the country around the turn of the year. At the end of the morning in Brabant the wind was force five.
“A disappointment, but necessary,” says mayor Theo Weterings about the decision. “The professional fireworks shows are a step towards a firework-free Tilburg. A step that we would like to take.”
“But of course safety comes first. The safety of visitors and all those people who would make the shows possible. Because of the predicted gusts of wind, I call on Tilburgers to be even more careful than usual with setting off fireworks,” said the mayor .
According to Weterings, the risks of something going wrong during this turbulent turn of the year are high. “The firework-free zones are therefore maintained.”
At seven o’clock tonight, fireworks shows were planned in the center of Tilburg at the Piushaven and in the Reeshofpark, especially for children. At midnight, a banging end for adults was scheduled at these locations.
The fireworks for the shows were already ready at both locations and will be cleaned up on Saturday afternoon. The municipality of Tilburg has announced that the fireworks shows will not be held at a later time.
The fireworks show in Efteling will continue for the time being, the amusement park announced on Saturday morning. However, the situation regarding the weather is closely monitored.
