The fire brigade will be busy extinguishing the fire at the building of logistics company Vice Versa for at least two or even three days. A major fire broke out in a cold room there in the early morning on Friday. Residents of the five houses adjacent to the building are still unable to sleep at home due to nuisance caused by smoke or odor.
The municipality of Oss announced this on Sunday evening. Due to shifting winds and a large cloud of smoke, the neighborhood experiences a lot of nuisance and smoke damage. Food was stored in the cold rooms, so it stinks. In the meantime, the municipality is calling on local residents with soot damage to contact their insurance company.
The neighbors of artificial grass company FamilyGrass were lucky. “If the wind had been different, they would not have been able to stop it,” director René van Hinthum said on Sunday. He was on holiday when the fire broke out, but is still glad he came home to help where he can.
There is virtually nothing to see about their building, except for a number of cracks in the wall. Yet work is not really an option yet. The street is full of fire hoses and a cloud of smoke drifts over the neighborhood. “So when we can get back to work, we don’t know.”
The fire started in a refrigerator around half past four in the morning on Friday. It soon turned out to be a complicated extinguishing job, especially because it involved a freezer room. The temperature in the building was -20, causing fire hoses to freeze and the floor to become slippery from the fire extinguishing water. A fire extinguishing robot was deployed.
Despite additional units and the deployment of hundreds of firefighters on Saturday, it took almost 24 hours to get the fire under control. And during the course of Saturday it became apparent that it would take a long time before the extinguishing was completed. However, it was possible to prevent the fire from spreading to buildings around the company. No injuries were reported in the major fire.
