Anyone who parks at Groningen Airport Eelde this summer will pay more than in recent years. The airport is therefore bucking the trend: parking has actually become relatively cheaper at the surrounding airports Schiphol, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Düsseldorf and Bremen.

This is evident from figures from the Groningen company Parkos, a comparison service for parking rates at airports. The site looked at the rates for the upcoming summer and compared them with last year, writes RTV Noord.

Anyone who parks their car at Eelde Airport for eight days in July will pay 40 euros this year. That was 35 euros last year. That is a price increase of more than 14 percent. This means that Eelde has the largest price increase of all airports within driving distance of Groningen.

Parking has actually become cheaper at other airports. For example, eight days of parking at Schiphol costs 66.55 euros this year. That was still 75.07 euros last year. In Eindhoven you pay 75.68 euros (was 88.16 euros), Rotterdam now costs 97.26 euros (was 105.38 euros) and in Düsseldorf you now pay 73.10 euros, compared to 81.35 euros last year.

Eelde is therefore still considerably cheaper than the competition further away in the Netherlands and Germany. Only Frankfurt (37.27 euros) and Bremen (39.96 euros) are slightly cheaper than the airport around the corner.

According to Parkos, the lower price at other Dutch airports is a result of increased competition between parking providers. “Dutch people are increasingly choosing flights from German airports. The lower price is a means to distinguish themselves from competitors,” says Guus Kerstholt of the price comparator.
