A call to Zeeland filmmakers

VLISSINGEN – The 26th edition of Film by the Sea will take place in Vlissingen and various other Zeeland cities from 6 to 15 September. For ten days, the city on the Zeeland coast can call itself the cinematic epicenter of the Netherlands. Traditionally, the festival is the kick-off of the film season and dozens of new arthouse and crossover films will have their Dutch premiere there. Zeeland films will also receive ample attention in the Zeeuws Licht program section.

The fourth film festival in the Netherlands is preparing for a new festive edition and is calling on Zeeland filmmakers to submit their new films. As usual, the Zeeland films will be shown several times throughout the festival in the Zeeuws Licht program line, and can all be seen during The Day of Zeeland Film on Saturday, September 14. The Awards Ceremony will also take place that day, where prizes can be won for Zeeland films in the categories Short fiction film, Short documentary and Long documentary.

If you are a Zeeland filmmaker or have made a film set in Zeeland, you can register it until July 1. Zeeland has film talent and we want to show that!

Which fiction films or documentaries are eligible?
The films are recent (from January 1, 2023) and the following applies specifically to Zeeland films:
– The film production must have been shot entirely or at least 50% in Zeeland.
– The film production has a Zeeland theme or subject
– In fiction films, the cast and crew are completely or at least 50% Zeeland

The production house or filmmaker does not have to be of Zeeland origin, as long as one of the three above criteria is met.

Length of the films:
Short: up to 30 minutes
Long: from 50 minutes

Awards
There are prizes to be won in each category in which films are submitted and selected. The Zeeland Film Prizes carry a cash prize of 1,000 euros each. The Film by the Sea program team will make a selection from the registered films for the competition.

Registration of films
More information about the registration procedure can be found on the Film by the Sea website under the heading ‘Professionals’. You can register via FilmFreeway. Do this in time before the final submission date of June 30. Choose Films from Zeeland (short) or Films from Zeeland (long).
