BUNNIK Three chess players are sitting intently bent over their game board in the living room of Bunnik on Thursday afternoon, while a group of ladies are busy playing a board game. The Bunnik Living Room opened its doors in December and various activities have already taken place. Some regular visitors meet here every week. There are all kinds of plans to offer even more variety to visitors and to raise awareness of ‘De Huiskamer’.

Visitor Ans Klarenbeek is happy that there is finally a meeting center in Bunnik after all these years. Ans: “Many people in Bunnik need social contact. Actually, it would be even better if ‘de Huiskamer’ were also open on Sundays, as there would be little to do for the residents of Bunnik. This meeting space must be better known, it must eventually become a real meeting place, but that will take time.” Hostess Annie van de Hoef agrees: “There are all kinds of options here, there is a cupboard full of games, there are plenty of magazines and newspapers and you can submit your own ideas or offer an activity.”

CHESS CLUB FOUND AWAY

The chess club has already found its way to the living room. Albert Mennes, Hein Stockmann and Abdul Rasul from Afghanistan play their weekly match. According to his chess friends, Abdul is head and shoulders above them in terms of level. As far as they are concerned, the chess club can certainly be expanded with a number of members, so that they can play at different levels. The gentlemen are present every Thursday afternoon. Interested parties can play a game and young people who are interested in chess are also very welcome.

WALK IN FOR A CHAT

The meeting room is separated from the library, so that the living room can also be used outside ‘the library’ opening hours. Martin Kamphuis of Kunstenhuis Idea says that he worked with the ‘Bunnik Samen’ network to get the living room off the ground. It was a joint challenge to create a meeting place in Bunnik and the library already rented the space, only a few minor adjustments were needed.

People can just drop in for a cup of coffee or a chat

Martin: “It fits perfectly with the objective of the new library. The approach is to meet each other, people can just drop in for a cup of coffee or a chat.”

MEETING PLACE

Bunnik Samen wants to create a meeting place in all three residential areas. Besides having a chat, there is much more possible. Talitha Kelderman is organizing a painting workshop on Thursday April 4, she will provide all the materials. Talitha: “There is room for five people, we are going to paint flowers according to the example. You don’t need to have any experience, but an afternoon of painting offers a lot of fun, materials are provided. All kinds of initiatives are slowly getting off the ground. Martin: “The idea is that people meet each other and especially feel welcome in the Bunnik Living Room.”

Opening hours: Monday from 11am to 1pm and Thursday from 3pm to 5pm.
