If you collect waste and raw materials every day in the most beautiful region of the Netherlands and therefore stand for that
a clean and safe living environment, then you want to actively contribute to cleaner air and good
living environment. With a heart for Drenthe, NV Area Reiniging has therefore taken an important step
making its fleet more sustainable: all diesel-powered collection vehicles and
sweepers have been running entirely on renewable diesel since the beginning of this year. That’s a lot earlier than that
was originally planned.

Renewable diesel, also called HVO100, is a cleaner-burning fuel,
made from one hundred percent renewable components. With this sustainable fuel up to
up to ninety percent savings on CO2 emissions compared to conventional ones
diesel fuel. Area has entered into a contract with Shell Fleet Solutions for this purpose
its entire fleet of more than a hundred vehicles runs on this sustainable fuel.

For the region

The decision to switch to renewable diesel by 2030 has already been taken
from the ambition to make a difference for the region. In decisions such as about the
fuel consumption, Area always takes the interests of residents and companies into account. So has Emmen
thanks to the contract with Shell, there is now a pump for Renewable Diesel on the Rondweg. Because of that
Other companies and residents now also have the choice to drive more sustainably. That’s double
gain for the region.

Almost completely CO2-free

Area had been working on the transition to sustainable business operations for some time. This is how the official cars drive
has been running on electricity from its own (700) solar collectors on the roof of the location in Emmen for years
and the company also wants to get rid of gas completely in the short term. Buildings are built for this purpose
better insulated. The newly built warehouse is already equipped with a heat pump installation. With the
transition to renewable diesel, Area is now virtually CO2-free. The next step is a trial
with the use of an electric sweeper. This is on the agenda for 2024.
