GRONINGEN, DRENTHE – Around this time last year, the government response ‘Nij Begun’ was published. This set out measures to solve problems surrounding gas extraction in Groningen and North Drenthe, to build a new future perspective and to pay off a debt of honor. Now, a year later, the province of Groningen, the municipalities in Groningen and North Drenthe and the water boards invite the people of Groningen and North Drenthe to a walk-in meeting on Saturday April 20 to provide more information and discuss Nij Begun.

An interim report is given on the plans for the present and future of Groningen and North Drenthe as a result of gas extraction. In the coming period, the joint authorities will organize a sustainable dialogue with residents through small-scale and large-scale discussions and meetings about Nij Begun’s plans and measures in neighborhoods, villages and municipalities. A website will be launched on April 20 where more information about Nij Begun and an agenda can be found.

Interested Groningen and Drenthe residents are cordially invited to visit the provincial government building in Groningen on Saturday, April 20 between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Important topics this day include: recovery (damage/strengthening), the social and economic development of Groningen/North Drenthe and sustainability. In addition, work is also being done on the State of Groningen: a monitor that shows the status of developments in Groningen and North Drenthe.

During this meeting, visitors can exchange ideas and wishes about their ideas and wishes with administrators from the province of Groningen, the Groningen and Drenthe municipalities and the water boards. Visitors can also talk to employees of the authorities involved (municipalities, provinces and central government) and organizations that know more about the topics mentioned and work on them every day.
