A TBS prisoner who started a fire in his room in the Nijmegen Pompe Clinic last week died in hospital last night from his injuries. The clinic reports this on its own website.
The patient suffered severe breathing problems after which he was taken to hospital. The room suffered only limited damage. According to De Telegraaf, he had only been in the clinic for one day.
Also in 2015 and 2020, a patient in the Pompe Clinic was injured by arson in his cell. Recently the clinic has also been in the news negatively due to escapes. In November 2022 and May 2023, clients took off during supervised leave.
And in June 2022, TBS patients Sherwin W. and Luciano D. escaped from the clinic with outside help. They climbed over three fences, while an accomplice made a hole in the outer fence with a grinder. D. was arrested after more than a week, W. was only arrested after more than six months. The Justice and Security Inspectorate concluded in June 2023 after an investigation that the clinic did not have its security in order.
