More than half of Drenthe residents who had an objection about physical damage from gas extraction took advantage of a one-off offer from the Institute for Mining Damage Groningen (IMG). In Drenthe, 216 people have agreed.

The IMG is making the one-off offer to accommodate people who have filed an objection to their damage report and to settle cases more quickly. There are 2,600 objectors in the entire gas extraction area, of which 375 are in Drenthe. Of these, 216 applicants have agreed to the offer, 156 still have to make a choice and three people have rejected the offer.

“This quick solution is the next step in building recovery. The solution for this group was really necessary, because we are dealing with objectors who have sometimes been waiting for years for a final conclusion of their claim file,” says IMG chairman of the board Henk Korvinus .

“In recent months, IMG employees have had personal contact with a large number of objectors to explain the offer. After receiving the offer, many objectors agreed to this, so they can now close their claims file.”

The three people from Drenthe who declined the offer will continue in the regular ‘objection route’. They will then come before an objection advisory committee that will consider the case.

According to the IMG, Drenthe residents who have already made a choice will have the money in their account within a few days. In the near future, the institute will contact people who have not yet made a choice and ‘special cases’. This could include addresses where there has been a death or where damage assessment will follow.
