Although children’s mayor Jorn is still working hard, the municipality of Groningen is in the starting blocks to find a new deputy and children’s mayor. The municipality is looking for a children’s mayor for the period September 2024 to August 2025. Children who live in the municipality of Groningen and are in groups 6 and 7 of primary school can register until May 22, 2024.
What will the new children’s mayor do?
The children’s mayor enjoys accompanying the mayor or councilor to important appointments. Such as receiving Sinterklaas, opening a sporting event or presenting a prize. The children’s mayor may also organize an activity himself in order to fulfill his/her election promise. For example, on April 30, Jorn will be traveling through various neighborhoods with his ‘moving sports bus’ full of sports equipment. The deputy children’s mayor replaces the children’s mayor when he is unable to attend.

Children from groups 6 and 7 from primary schools in Groningen can register as a candidate through a vlog. More information can be found on the website redactie.groningen.nl/kinderburgemeester.
