Utrecht

From Wednesday, 75 asylum seekers will be accommodated in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, for whom there is no room in the overcrowded registration center in Ter Apel in Groningen. They can stay there for a maximum of four weeks. The municipality of Utrecht is looking for a “high-quality temporary shelter” where they can go afterwards.

Utrecht says it is in discussions with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and with the owner of the possible next reception location. The municipality does not report which location it concerns.

According to Utrecht mayor Sharon Dijksma, the asylum seekers are “women, children and families”.

Hotel rooms

In Oirschot in Brabant, the reception location for asylum seekers will remain open for three years longer. This can then be extended by two years. About 150 people live in the complex on the Oerlesedijk, including about forty unaccompanied minors.

The municipality of Terneuzen accommodates approximately 36 status holders. They are recognized as refugees and are allowed to stay in the Netherlands. Because they are given shelter, they can leave the asylum seeker center and a place becomes available there. Sixteen people will go to the former hotel Het Wapen van Zeeland in the town of Axel later this month. Twenty young people, between the ages of 15 and 21, will be housed in the town of Terneuzen from June.

In Bergen and Schoorl (North Holland) and Thorn (Limburg), COA rents hotel rooms from the Fletcher chain. About twenty status holders come to each place.
