The Olympic competition season will start in a week and a half. The first international rowing skirmishes will then take place in Varese. In addition to the Dutch armada, the British will also participate in the World Cup competition in Italy. Yesterday the Islanders announced their Cup crews. Eve Stewart (ex RIC/Nereus/Iowa, multiple medal winner for the Netherlands) will now compete for the United Kingdom. The following British teams remain unchanged compared to the World Cup ’23. Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson and Georgie Brayshaw remain in the doubles; Oli Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge and Freddie Davidson in the cox and Jacob Dawson, Morgan Bolding, Rory Gibbs, Sholto Carnegie, Charlie Elwes, Tom Digby, James Rudkin, Tom Ford and helmsman Harry Brightmore will compete against the Holland Eight.
Musical chairs
George Bourne sculls and Seb Devereux is now in the double scull with John Collins. Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George start in the boat class in which Guillaume Krommenhoek and Niki van Sprang still have to qualify: the pairs class. Graeme Thomas won bronze in the single scull at the World Championships ’22 and will compete in the double sculls with Callum Dixon, Tom Barras and Matt Haywood. Sam Redgrave (no relation to Steve) enters the four-seater with Helen Glover, Esme Booth and Rebecca Shorten.
GBR 3
The British women’s eight starts in Varese in two fours with the numbers GBR 2 and – including Stewart – 3. She won bronze for the Netherlands in the SB fours at the 2020 European Championships, and silver in the under-23 eight in 2018 . An attempt to reach the Tokyo Olympic Games in pairs failed at the OKT.
