REGION > Many agricultural entrepreneurs have innovative ideas for their business operations, but lack the financial resources to further develop them. To ensure that these innovations are not lost, the province of Utrecht makes a subsidy available for projects that contribute to future-proof, sustainable and nature-inclusive agriculture.

The new subsidy scheme Collaboration for Innovation from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP 2023-2027) will open on June 5, 2024. In Utrecht, the province is making 4.6 million euros available. The subsidy can be applied for for innovative projects that contribute to the improvement of working methods, products or services for future-proof and sustainable agriculture in the province of Utrecht.

Encouraging innovation

Agricultural entrepreneurs face major challenges. Goals in the areas of nature, water and climate require a change in agricultural management. A change that can also be achieved with innovative ideas. To get off the ground, these ideas often require collaboration between different parties. The subsidy is intended for the process of research and development: from idea to a proven working principle.

For whom?

Collaborating farmers or a farmer in collaboration with knowledge parties can apply for the subsidy. The scheme focuses extra attention on strengthening revenue models for nature-inclusive circular agriculture. The experiences gained are shared with other farmers and agricultural companies.

Smart solutions

Deputy Mirjam Sterk (Rural Area Transition): ‘Smart solutions for the challenges we face are not only good for agriculture, but also for the economy and society. With this scheme we invest in the future of sustainable agriculture in our province. We help innovative farmers take that step that will enable them to turn their idea into a successful improvement in their business operations. These could be technical improvements, but also improvements in their production process.’
