Popular camping spots: Zeeburg camping, Vliegenbos camping, and… De Meeuwenlaan in Noord, as it turns out. Local residents occasionally see their street turned into a low-budget campsite. “Especially during the school holidays. And then they pee along the parking spaces.”

We count about six in one day. A day later there are seven. “I can’t keep up anymore,” says a local resident, who is not much bothered by it. She does say that there were two at the door recently. “There was a whole family in there. I think they slept in it.”

Do not stay overnight

According to the rules, you are not allowed to spend the night in the camper in Amsterdam. You are also not allowed to park in the same place for more than three days.

Other neighbors say that they experience nuisance from the campers. “Sometimes they pee on the side and throw rubbish along the parking lots,” says a neighbor. “They also rev the engines and it is noisy here, so you hear it very loudly.” Another: “Sometimes they poop in the bushes and they put the camper everywhere. They don’t think about the rules.”

The district says that the problem is known to them and to the local police officer. Enforcement officers would therefore regularly send campers away. The district plans to place signs around Meeuwenlaan to inform holidaymakers of the rules.
