UTRECHT The open call for the sixth edition of the KF Hein Stipend has yielded 61 entries, the KF Hein Fund said. “Visual artists and designers from various disciplines from the province of Utrecht were called upon to register with an idea for a research proposal. The jury was positive about the number of entrants who thought critically about the way of storytelling in their own work.”

“This year, themes such as the collective, the spiritual world and sustainability were reflected in a number of entries, which clearly show how some artists also deal with social themes.”

When assessing the entries, the jury looked at both the artists’ oeuvre and the plan. “We also carefully looked at the need for the research, which could be thematic, substantive or artistic, and at what point in the artist’s career this was requested. This has led to a varied list of five artists/designers.”

These five artists/designers have been nominated for the stipend:

· Bas Oussoren

· Cecilia Rebergen

· Frances Rompas

· Frank Koolen

· Heleen Mineur

The nominees will further develop their proposal and present it to the jury in September. The winner of the KF Hein Stipend 2024 will be announced on October 7, after which the artist will have a year to conduct the research. In the autumn of 2025, the work will be shown in the Utrecht Lokaal of the Centraal Museum.

The KF Hein Fund believes it is important that people make the Utrecht region more beautiful and stronger, and that residents have the opportunity to progress. “That is why we support special initiatives and individuals with gifts, advice, prizes, scholarships and assignments. In addition, we like to bring valuable projects to widespread attention and think about how collaboration can strengthen an initiative.”
