Although Saturday was King’s Day, the evening at RTL was mainly dedicated to queensin Make up your mind. About the regal mystery queen the makers appeared to have thought carefully, because the entire jury panel was shocked when the TV boss – who knew everyone in the studio – revealed himself.
For a long time, the panel, consisting of Nikkie de Jager, Tygo Gernandt, Fred van Leer and Chantal Janzen, had absolutely no time to think about who was behind alter ego ‘Brride’. They unanimously agreed that the queen looked beautiful, but had no idea who had dressed in the large, white wedding dress.
Janzen was stunned when the mystery queen revealed itself not much later. Her and Van Leer’s sign says Robert ten Brink, but the two were quite wrong. The other team, consisting of De Jager and Gernandt, took a gamble with Wilfred Genee. “That is also a very beautiful woman, I think,” joked Brrride, but this team also did not guess his identity.
It is Peter van der Vorst who appears to be standing on the stage in front of them. The panel couldn’t quite believe it at first, but when Van der Vorst says ‘that it really is him’, they realize it. “This is not normal,” Gernandt shouted, while Van Leer and De Jager watched with open mouths, and Janzen sank further into her chair in surprise.
Hints
Not only Van der Vorst’s name is royal. He was also a royal reporter for many years RTL Boulevard and he is now the (state) head of RTL. The name Brrride contained two hints. ‘Brrr’ refers to his surname, because when there is frost it is cold. And although Carlo Boszhard is now the presenter of Married at first sightVan der Vorst took on that role for the first seasons of that program.
Van der Vorst had already been asked a number of times before he decided to participate Make up your mind. It turns out he had a good reason for this. Van de Vorst once learned to walk in heels at Van Leer’s home and is now on stage because he is proud of Make up your mind. “I have been doing this job, content director at RTL, for five years now and I actually think this is the program I am most proud of. It is entertainment with a message.” He believes that message should continue to be spread. “Thank you Carlo for all the craftsmanship and love. This is actually why we work in television, because working in television is really, really fun. We see that again here tonight.”
The other queens who were allowed to reveal themselves on Saturday evening were Loulou Gal (Valerio Zeno), Sydney Lekker (Ruben van der Meer), Mary Hattan (Margriet van der Linden). Luna Leftover turned out to be the alter-ego of Manuel Venderbos, which means that this season no fewer than two people from the AD Media Podcast appeared in Make up your mind. It previously appeared that Angela de Jong transformed herself into a drag queen.
